Governor Cuomo presents an oversized check to City Officials

Governor Andrew Cuomo appeared at Batavia City Hall this afternoon where he announced that Batavia was the first place regional winner for the Finger Lakes of the State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative Funds.

Cuomo prefaced the announcement by lowering expectations and talking up the second and third place prizes of 8 and 6 million dollars before awarding the city the 10 million dollar top prize.

Cuomo said, “Second place here is great and if it wasn't for the expectation of first place, ten million dollars, everybody would have been happy.  And six million dollars is great.  So with that as a background, it's my pleasure to announce that your plan has been reviewed against one hundred and four other plans and congratulations Batavia you have won first place ten million dollars”

Batavia’s winning plan entitled “100 Million, I’m All In” is an investment goal that looks to realize $100 million worth of investment into the City over the next 5 years.

The 2018 Fiscal Year Budget was built around the initiative that looks to double the current rate of investment in the city.

City Council President Eugene Jankowski closed out the announcement by accepting the grant from the Governor
