A Thursday fire victim died of smoke inhalation, and a man fatally shot on Saturday morning was gunned down in the basement.
And both incidents occurred inside the same apartment building, at 222 West State Street in the Village of Albion.
The aforementioned are the only further details being released by VIllage Police. The department has promised a news conference tomorrow afternoon to discuss any further information.
This all began last Thursday evening when a blaze was reported on the second floor of the apartment complex. Firefighters arriving on scene were met with heavy smoke and flames shooting from a rear window. They were initially beaten back and unable to get to a victim inside that apartment.
When crews eventually did get inside, they found 52-year-old Gloria Robinson lying unconscious on the floor of a bathroom. Attempts to revive Robinson were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the fire was not suspicious in nature, and there is no evidence of criminal liability.
Then, less than two days later, 32-year-old David Grove was discovered with a serious gunshot wound in the basement of 222 West State Street. Grove was transported to an area hospital, but ultimately died from his wounds.
The investigation into that shooting continues, including the means by which Grove entered the apartment building. Due to the recent fire, the building had been unoccupied, though it is unclear if police tape surrounded it or if there was any official condemnation.
The Tuesday news conference is set for 2:30pm.
