In his first full week on the job, Congressman Chris Collins is getting acquainted with his district.
In Batavia yesterday, Collins met with approximately 40 local farmers to discuss what they want in the Farm Bill. Collins is a member of the Agriculture Committee, so re-enacting the expired bill that provides a safety net for farmers is “a top priority.” The informal meeting which also involved New York Farm Bureau President Dean Norton comes as Collins is set to participate in his first Agriculture Committee meeting in Washington soon.
In the near future, Collins’s office will establish a formal Agriculture Advisory Committee.
In a statement, Collins says “A new Farm Bill is too important to agricultural interest not only in our own community, but all across this country. We all rely on the hard work of America’s farmers and now the federal government needs to do its job.”
