The Oakfield Fire Department thinks the Theft of Services charge against Robert Hilchey should be dropped.
The 60-year-old Oakfield man was accused of illegally installing a water line on March 1. The Sheriff’s Office report said that he allegedly installed a water supply line at the Oakfield Fire Department, prior to the Village’s water meter, allowing himself and others use of the water before it could be measured by the meter.
In a statement, the Oakfield Fire Department said that it made a mistake – that, after reviewing past meeting minutes it was “discovered that we did give Mr. Hilchey permission to perform minor plumbing changes at the fire hall.” It says that any “misinformation by the fire department was not intentional” and that they were unsure at first that permission was given.
Hilchey is due in court on the matter March 18.
