Two men are facing charges involving what was initially reported as a hostage situation yesterday afternoon.
34-year-old Carl Sherman of Rochester is charged with second-degree menacing and 35-year-old Jason Sherman of Batavia is charged with a felony count each of strangulation and assault.
Batavia Police say the original report came from a third party from the woman inside the house at 12 Highland Park, where nearly two dozen Batavia Police officers and state troopers took up positions after 1 in the afternoon. According to Batavia police, the third party said there were weapons inside the home and that the woman was being threatened and being held against her will.
Four people were taken into custody at around 2 and after interviews officials learned that a domestic dispute had taken place between the woman inside and Jason on Sunday. Carl, Jason’s brother, arrived at the residence and allegedly threatened the woman with a baseball bat following another argument at the home.
Carl was jailed on $5,000 dollars bail. Jason is being held with no bail.
The woman sustained fractures to her wrist and a broken bone in her neck from the incident on Sunday. She is being assisted by a domestic violence agency.
