An Alden native remains in a coma after suffering a severe beating at last weekend’s Kid Rock concert at Darien Lake.

Jason McNeil was beaten unconscious and has been in a coma since the attack.

The defendant is identified as 34-year-old Craig Lawson of Ontario, Canada.

District Attorney Lawrence Friedman says the office is looking into the possibility of upgrading the charges against Lawson.

“The first thing we’re going to have to do is get a handle on what occurred -- take a look at statements of witnesses, police reports, things like that – and also to follow the victim’s medical condition before we make any decision like that," Friedman said.

Lawson was charged with misdemeanor assault and released on bail. Meanwhile, McNeil, now a resident of the state of Alabama, is listed in critical condition at ECMC.

Lawson's being represented by local state senator Michael Ranzenhofer.

District Attorney Lawrence Friedman says that although Lawson was only held on just $1,000 and is from Canada, he expects him to face his charges.

“He has retained an attorney who has appeared on his behalf. The defendant is scheduled to be in court on July 30. At this point, I have no reason to believe that heh won’t be there.”
