The former Village of Corfu court clerk accused of stealing over $10,000 in court funds may avoid jail time after she pleaded guilty to a single felony count and paid restitution.
Brandi Watts issued a check for almost $10,200 to the village in county court Thursday. She also pleaded guilty to a single county of tampering with government records – a class D felony.
Watts was charged in a 61-count indictment for falsifying documents to steal the court’s funds. If she obeys her interim probation and stays out of trouble she could be given a chance at a conditional discharge and avoid up to seven years in prison.
Watts was the clerk for her father, Robert Alexander, the former village justice. He is next scheduled in court Nov. 18.
