City of Batavia Police has identified a 21-year-old Vine Street resident as the alleged armed robber who held up a local gas station.

Just before 10 Tuesday night, police say a lone armed robber displayed what appeared to be a handgun and demanded cash at the Sunoco station at West Main and Dellinger and fled on foot.

With the help of the Sheriff’s office’s new K-9 Destro, a suspect was taken into custody. He is identified as Edward Woods III of Vine Street.

He’s charged with second-degree Robbery, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Petit Larceny, Menacing and Criminal Mischief.

No one was hurt.

It was unknown how much money was taken and the weapon was recovered.
