The Byron-Bergen fourth graders are one step closer to having yogurt named the official New York state snack.
Sen. Michael Ranzenhofer’s office reports that the bill they initiated has passed senate committee as it makes it way through the legislative process.
The fourth graders have been learning how yogurt benefits both the body and the state economically and banned together to take their idea to make it the state snack to Albany.
The Empire State is the No. 1 producer of yogurt in the nation. The bill needs to be approved by both houses before it heads to the governor’s desk.
Ranzenhofer says he’s hopeful it will become law this year.
