An intense thunderstorm with a brief but potent downpour leaves its mark on Genesee County.
The storm came up quickly early last evening.
The rains closed a section of Route 77 closed this morning. Route 77 – Allegany Road – between Depot Road and Water Street in Corfu. Route 77 through Corfu is now open.
There were about 100 customers of National Grid without power as late as 6 this morning – power has now been restored to all customers in Genesee County.
A Flood Warning that was issued last evening has now expired.
The show will go on for the Batavia Players production of Hamlet.
Flood water threatened parts of Harvester 56 theatre last night.
City firemen were called to help stem the tide of rising water in the theatre.
Hamlet opens tonight at 7:30p.m..
National Fuel customers in western New York will be paying a little more for their natural gas.
The average customer's bill will increase by more than a dollar per month. The rate hike takes effect May First.
A suspected Batavia bank robber has been arrested in Louisiana.
33 year old Joel Zsebehazy,was arrested by authorities in Assumption Parish, Louisiana on warrants out of Batavia.
He is charged with Grand Larceny and Robbery.
Police accused Zsebehazy holding up the Key Bank on Main Street last December and getting away with 10-thousand dollars in cash.
Extradition to Genesee County is underway.
A state of emergency remains in effect for Niagara County as water levels on Lake Ontario threaten shoreline communities.
The lake is as much as 19-inches above normal and rising.
A swift water rescue team and sandbags are on standby as residents of lakeside communities prepare for possible evacuations.
The Buffalo Sabres are parting ways with head coach Dan Bylsma and general manager Tim Murray. The team has fired the duo after missing the playoffs for the sixth straight season.
