Former Republican Congressman Chris Collins is looking for help in getting a lenient sentence. The Buffalo News reports he’s sent an e-mail to friends and associates, asking them to reach out to the judge handling his federal insider trading case. In the e-mail, Collins said it’s important for the judge to get letters highlighting his years of public service and accomplishments. Collins, who represented the 27th District, is facing up to 57 months in prison when he’s sentenced in January.

A suspected assault at a Darien Lake rap concert.
20 year old Lauren Smith of Lockport was arrested on Sunday for assault. Her alleged victim claimed she was punched by Smith at the September 15th concert breaking her law.
Smith was charged with second degree assault and released with a court appearance ticket.

An Elba man arrested for choking and assault.
State Police report the arrest of 37 year old Franklin Cook following a domestic dispute in Elba Sunday night.
Cook was accused of choking an individual and was charged with two counts of Assault and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing.
He was ultimately released on his own recognizance.

October 11th is the last day to register in person at the Genesee County Board of Elections for the General Election on November 5th.
Mail registration forms must be postmarked by October 11th and received at Board of Elections no later than October 16th.

A new poll shows a majority of Empire State residents support a push to ban the sale of flavored e-cigarettes.
Sixty-one-percent of people surveyed by Siena College are behind that idea, while 52-percent of folks support banning all e-cigarette products.
Officials were supposed to begin enforcing a ban on flavored e-cigarette sales last week, but that’s on hold pending a court hearing October 18th
