Batavia Kmart to Close

Batavia’s K-mart on Lewiston Road is closing.
The local Kmart is among 142 Sears and Kmart locations listed for closure as part of the latest Bankruptcy filing.
Kmart Stores have been hanging on by a thin financial thread for the past several years but the local Kmart has managed to avoid closure, until now.
Tom Turnbull is President of the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce
The Chamber estimated the store employed just under 100 full and part time workers.
The local Kmart is expected to close before the end of the year.
According to the company a liquidation sale is expected to begin at the Batavia location in about two weeks.
Today’s announcement leaves only 700 Sears and Kmart stores in operation across the country.
