Bellavia Awarded Medal of Honor in D.C.

Batavia resident David Bellavia now wears the nation’s highest military award, the Medal of Honor.
Earlier this afternoon, President Trump described Bellavia’s bravery in November 2004….as he cleared an insurgent strong point and allowed platoon members to get to safety.
The White House says after he helped his platoon escape fire, he entered a house and killed at least four insurgents who were firing rocket-propelled grenades.
Bellavia was born in Lyndonville, Orleans County.
He resides in Batavia and works in Buffalo.
He is the only living Iraq war veteran to receive the Medal of Honor.
WBTA News partner Howard Owens, publisher of The Batavian was in Washington for today’s ceremony at the White House and talked with several Iraq War vets who had gathered to honor Bellavia.
