Activists in New York want the state to adopt the National Ashanti Alert Network. Much like the silver alert network which sends out an alert if a senior citizen goes mission, and the Amber alert network which sends an alert if a child is missing, the Ashanti Network would send an alert for a person over the age of 17 but under the age of 65. It is named after Ashanti Billie, a 19 year old who was abducted and killed in Virginia in 2017. The network does not take notices from the public but is tied in with law enforcement to send out the alarms. The Ashanti Network is not in full effect throughout the country, yet. States must opt into the network’s pilot program.
