New York is set to join 14 other states, plus Washington, DC in banning conversion therapy. State lawmakers have passed a bill prohibiting mental health professionals from trying to change a teenager’s sexual orientation or gender orientation. Another bill makes gender identity a protected class under state law. Governor Cuomo says he’ll sign both bills, calling LGBTQ conversion therapy fraudulent and saying it’s done a lot of harm to young people.
Bitter cold is still with us, but in Wyoming County, the Wind Chill Warning has been cancelled.
The weather service is maintaining a Wind Chill Advisory for Genesee, Wyoming and Orleans counties until 7AM tomorrow morning.
Wind Chills as low as minus 20-degrees are possible.
At that temperature, Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in 30 minutes or less.
Fire damages a bedroom in Basom.
Volunteers answered the alarm late last night on Bloomingdale Road in Basom.
There was one person in the home at the time who managed to safely escape.
Fire investigators have not yet said what sparked the blaze.
The City of Batavia Fire Department is asking fire hydrant adopters to clear their nearest hydrant due to the recent snowfall. .
For others clearing their own property of snow, the fire department asks that you to maintain clear access a hydrant on your property.
There is a water main break on Union St near Notre Dame High School. Crews are on site to begin repairs but water service will be interrupted in the area until repairs are complete.
Once repaired residents are cautioned to allow some time for water clarity to return and avoid laundry activities until full clarity has returned.
