The National Weather Service has now posted a High Wind Watch for Genesee, Wyoming and Orleans Counties.
The Wind Watch goes in effect tomorrow evening through Friday afternoon. Winds out of the southwest are forecast from 30 to 40 miles per hour, gusting to 60.
In addition to the High Wind Watch, the weather service is continuing its Winter Weather Advisory through 1 AM tomorrow for Genesee and Orleans Counties.
The weather service predicts more freezing rain and ice accumulation even as temperatures warm a bit this afternoon but will then turn colder later this evening.
A travel advisory has been issued for Orleans County. Heavy icing conditions with a combination of rain and freezing rain are creating very slippery driving conditions.
National Grid is planning a brief power interruption in the City of Batavia.
The interruption is scheduled to begin just before midnight this Friday February 8th and last for about 2 hours.
The outage will effect residents on streets that intersect with Main Street or in neighborhoods that stretch from Redfield Parkway to Ellicott Avenue throughout much of the city’s 3rd and 4th Wards.
The New York State Parent Teacher Association is asking lawmakers to re-consider the idea of legalizing marijuana for recreational use.
Officials say they don’t believe there’s any benefit to society.
They’re also concerned about the potential problems it could pose to public health.
The governor has made marijuana legalization a goal of this year’s legislative session.
The Buffalo Sabres are back on the winning track after a victory over the Minnesota Wild. Sam Reinhart played the hero by scoring a goal in the shootout in Buffalo’s 5-4 victory.
The Sabres return to home ice Thursday night when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.
