Barros de Souza and Ashworth Named Genesee Athletes of the Week
BATAVIA, NY… Midfielder Hiago Barros de Souza from men’s soccer and forward Julia Ashworth from women’s soccer were named Genesee Athletes of the Week for the week of August 26. Both players helped Genesee to two wins each over the first weekend of competition.
Hiago Barros de Souza scored three goals in Saturday’s 10-1 victory over Clinton Community College. The sophomore from Cerquilho, Brazil then added a pair of goals in Genesee’s 12-1 victory over North Country CC to win the inaugural Andie Carpenter Memorial Cup.
Julia Ashworth from women’s soccer scored her first collegiate goal on Saturday against Clinton Community College. The freshman from Hornell, NY followed that performance with scoring a hat trick against North Country Community College on Sunday afternoon as the Cougars played in honor and memory of Andie Carpenter.
The soccer programs are home on Saturday, August 31 starting at 1pm in an NJCAA Region III doubleheader against Mohawk Valley Community College. The women will play at 1pm and the men will follow at 3pm. Both games will be streamed live on www.geneseeathletics.com
