GCC Athletics Update: Men’s and Women’s Soccer

Both the No. 8 Genesee Community College women’s soccer team and the No. 2 GCC men’s soccer team recorded shutouts at Niagara County Community College Sept. 12.
The women’s team won 7-0, while the men’s team won 8-0. For both teams, it was each’s third clean sheet of the season.
The win also extended the women’s team’s win streak to three games during which the Cougars have out-scored oppositions by a combined 15-3 score.
Nine different Cougars found the scoresheet for the women’s team with Katline Cartwright leading the way with a seven-point performance from three goals and one assist.
Diante Scheepers added a pair of goals for the women’s team, while single tallies cane from Miko Yamashita and Leah Czechowski.
Single assists for the women’s team were registered by Bri Heers, Mackenzie O’Brien, Julie Kommer, Michaela Curletta, Autumn Jeffery and Czechowski.
Jaclyn Guzdek recorded three saves to earn the clean sheet and third shutout this season.
After compiling a win streak of 13 games over the last two seasons that was snapped last weekend, the men’s soccer team began a new streak with a pair of wins during which the Cougars have out-scored oppositions by a combined 12-0 score.
Nine different Cougars found the scoresheet for the men’s team with Anthony Harman being the only Genesee player to score more than one goal with a pair.
The other six goal scorers for the men’s team included Sam Hall, Philip Melo, Rodrigo Albuquerque, Jose Manoel Cavalini, Hijiri Sano and Hiago Barros de Souza, with the latter two also earning an assist.
Ed Port dished out three helpers with a single assist coming from Joshua Jones to round out the men’s team’s scoring, while Matthies Meyer recorded five saves to earn the clean sheet.
