GCC Athletics Update: Women’s Soccer Hosts Varsity Tournament

Empire United 2019 – Varsity Tournament Champions

BATAVIA, NY… The Genesee Community College women’s soccer team hosted their annual Varsity Tournament over the weekend with teams from throughout the region participating. At the end of the tournament, it was Empire United coming away with the Tournament Championship.
“The teams that were competing were some of the strongest teams we have seen compete at our tournament”, comments Genesee Head Coach Jeff Reyngoudt. “It’s great to see that girls’ soccer is regaining its strength again and the teams in the area are proving to be strong competition”, Reyngoudt added. Both Jeff and assistant coach Macy Reyngoudt were overly impressed with the strength of the teams and the class that they all showed throughout the tournament.
After the round-robin style of play, Soccer Academy and Genesee received byes into the tournament semi-finals where they played against Stormers SC and Empire United respectively. Also competing were two teams from Lyndonville.

SEMI FINALS: #3 Empire United defeats #2 Genesee 2-0

QUARTER FINALS: #4 Stormers SC defeats #5 Lyndonville2 2-0
#3 Empire United defeats #6 Lyndonville1 5-0
Genesee coaches Jeff and Macy Reyngoudt use the varsity tournament as a recruiting tool for the nationally-ranked Genesee women’s soccer program. Both coaches are excited about what’s to come in the next few years, not only with the women’s soccer program at Genesee, but as the sport of soccer in the region.
