GCC Cougar Athletes of the Week Announced
The Genesee Community College athletics department announced its players of the week for the week ending Oct. 13 with Lyndsey Rowland from the volleyball team taking the top female honor and Jack Sharman-Dodd from the men’s soccer team taking the top male honor.
Rowland led Genesee to a 2-2 record last week with a pair of 3-0 sweep wins over Tompkins Cortland and Corning. The pair of wins secured a regional playoff berth for the Cougars and gave them nine wins in their last 11 matches after putting together three-consecutive set wins in each of those victories. Rowland’s 19 blocks (nine solo) last week also earned her the National Junior College Athletic Association D-III Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. It was the second time this season that the sophomore received national recognition for an outstanding weekly performance.
Sharman-Dodd collected eight points over three games including three goals and a pair of assists in wins over Finger Lakes and Adirondack. The sophomore had one goal against the Lakers and a pair of goals and assists in the win over the Timberwolves. The eight-point week matched his season point output from a season ago as part of the NJCAA Men’s Soccer D-III Championship Team.
