Genesee County Clerk Office will not issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants

Genesee County Clerk Michael Cianfrini has serious concerns in regards to the recent passage of the “Green Light Bill” in New York which allows illegal immigrants to be issued New York State Driver’s Licenses.
Cianfrini said his office would not be issuing the licenses out for several reasons including that his staff is not trained to authenticate documentation for those applicants, adding that the process would likely prompt illegal immigrants to commit fraud in order to obtain a license locally…
Cianfrini said the law doesn’t go into effect for another 6 months and if their office receives any applicants he will refer them to the nearest state DMV office which is located in Syracuse.
Cianfrini said he along with the State Association of County Clerks are awaiting clarification from the state on how they plan to implement the law locally.
