Homicide in the city under investigation

One man is dead and a murder suspect remains at-large following a report of a physical altercation at a Liberty Street residence.
Batavia Police responded to one of the rooms at 111 Liberty Street at approximately 11:15 p.m. last night where officers located a male, who had sustained significant injuries.
Officers requested EMS to respond however the victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
A possible suspect description was obtained, and Officers canvassed the area for evidence with the assistance of State Police K-9’s.
The suspect description is not being released at this time pending investigation along with the identity of the victim as police are still in the process of notifying relatives.
Police have released little information in the case but say it appears not to be a random act of violence and that the suspect and victim knew each other.
The investigation is on-going, further information will be released following the results of the autopsy scheduled for tomorrow.
