John Hodgins Dies at 87

A prominent printer and artist in Batavia has passed.
John Jay Hodgins of Batavia passed away this morning.
John was a creative printer, sign painter, and entrepreneur who founded Batavia Press, Hodgins Printing, Hodgins Engraving, papersigns.com, and John’s Studio.
He contributed in many ways to the community serving 8 years on the Batavia City Council and another 8 years on the Genesee County Legislature.
He was a former Director of the Richmond Memorial Library, and a director of the Genesee County Baseball Club, not to mention a member of Batavia Society of Artists, serving as the treasurer and president.
Many knew John an artist who had many shows of his work locally and taught painting workshops in Maine and Florida. He authored and published four books.
John is survived by his wife of 67 years Mary, and six children.
Mr. Hodgins was 87.
