It has been abnormally dry and this combination is exactly what causes water usage to spike.
County Public Works Director Tim Hens says the County is continuing to urge all residents connected to the public water supply system to make small changes to conserve water usage.
Avoid watering lawns, washing vehicles and any unnecessary water usage. If you need to water a garden, please do so at night.
Small changes, the county says, can make a big difference.
The dangerous heat continues today. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Genesee and Orleans counties. It’s in effect from noon until 8 p.m. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. Heat index values in the mid to upper 90’s is expected. Drink plenty of fluids and check on neighbors.
The Richmond Memorial Library in Batavia remains closed today due to a broken air conditioning system that impacts most of the library.
The library’s on-line services are still available.
It could be several more days until repairs are made.
Library staff is hoping cooler temperatures will allow them to open even without repairs.
Originally reported as a porch fire on Gilhooly Road in Alexander has now declared the house a total loss.
The fire erupted around 3am Monday sent several volunteers departments to the scene. All occupants had escaped safely.
Today, Alexander Fire Chief Marshall Merle said the fire started in the front porch but spread quickly and eventually burned the entire hosue to the ground.
New York Republicans are throwing their support behind Long Island Congressman Lee Zeldin in his bid to be the state’s next governor.
Zeldin received 85-percent of the votes in a straw poll, making him the party’s presumptive nominee.
Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino earned five-percent of the vote while Andrew Giuliani, who is the son of ex-New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, received no votes.
