Genesee County’s unemployment rate is half of what was a year ago.
Figures released by the State Department of Labor show the June jobless rate was 4.5 percent. One year ago, the unemployment rate was 9.5 percent.
The labor department also reports the number of persons employed in Genesee County compared to a year ago has risen by a half-percent.
The Genesee County Youth Bureau is seeking applicants for the Genesee Youth Lead Program.
Applicants should be a Genesee County high school student entering their freshman through senior year.
The deadline to apply is Sept. 3.
The eight-month program is focused on developing leadership skills within an individual through each specific session and through hands on experience.
The COVID numbers in New York have become even more concerning.
In the latest state report, the positivity rate has jumped to 1.67%
More people admitted to the hospital with virus-related symptoms…and admissions to the ICU also spiked.
Two additional deaths were also reported
The Toronto Blue Jays will be playing their final game at Sahlen Field in Buffalo tonight after calling the area home for much of the past two seasons.
The Blue Jays have had to play in Buffalo due to the ongoing shutdown of the border between the U.S. and Canada.
Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and her husband are going to be facing a judge today. Warren and Timothy Granison were recently indicted by a Monroe County grand jury on weapon and child endangerment charges. Police say a search of the mayor’s home back in May uncovered guns that weren’t registered to Warren or Granison.
