A smoke alarm is being credited with alerting a homeowner in LeRoy about a fire at their residence. The blaze happened yesterday at an address on Parmelee Road and getting water on the flames was difficult initially due to icy conditions. First responders needed to use four-wheel drive vehicles and Utility Task Vehicles in order to reach the house. No one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
A bill that was signed by Governor Kathy Hochul is aiming to address trauma children endure when they see their parents being arrested. The Child-Sensitive Arrest Bill aims to make the process more uniform across New York by providing law enforcement with clear guidelines, tools and training on how to make the situation less traumatic for the children. Hochul said she “strongly supports all efforts to prevent harm to children” and she believes they should be “supported and protected regardless of the actions of a parent or guardian.”
With so many motorists expected to be on the roads in the coming days, the Department of Motor Vehicles and State Police are issuing safety tips. The agencies are recommending if you are planning to drink alcoholic beverages, make sure you have a safe ride home. Also, if there’s any snow on your vehicle, make sure it’s removed so it does not slide down the windshield or fall off the roof and block the view of other drivers. Updates on road conditions can be found by calling 511 or heading to 511ny.org.
