The Albion lift bridge on Rt 98 has been completely disassembled. The last trusses were supposed to be removed 2 weeks ago but the move was delayed till the end of last week. The bridge closed to traffic on Nov. 14 and isn’t expected to reopen for 18 months. Crane-Hogan Structural Systems in Spencerport is general contractor for the project. In rebuilding the Albion bridge, Crane-Hogan will replace bridge decks and portions of the truss system with high-strength, galvanized steel; modernize mechanical and electrical components within the bridge’s lifting system; rehabilitate the bridge tower; install new bridge rails; and repaint the bridge in the current shade of green.
In September 2019 plans were unveiled by Buffalo-based OnCore Golf Technology Inc., for a sports and entertainment complex on Kelly Island along the Buffalo River near RiverWorks. This massive glass and screens structure would include a sportsbar, seating areas and a driving range held above the ground with a view of the river. But one of the partners in the project, Doug Swift, says the renderings of the facility and the location are changing. The 3 tiered driving range will just be 2 tiers. There won’t be a hotel anymore, there will still be banquet, event and meeting spaces. The new location for the 30 million dollar complex, projected to add 400-500 jobs to Buffalo, has not yet been disclosed.
For the first time since suffering cardiac arrest on January 2nd. Bills safety Damar Hamlin spoke to the public, via a video posted to both his personal and the official Buffalo Bills social media accounts. Ending it with a message that read, “this is just the beginning of the impact that I want to have on the world. And with God’s guidance I will continue to do wonderful and great things. I couldn’t do this without any of the support and love. And I can’t wait to continue to take you all on this journey with me.”
It’s six more weeks of winter according to the prognostications of Buffalo Bert. The local critter that lives at Hawk Creek saw his shadow on Saturday, forecasting more snow and cold to come. At the same time there was a fundraiser for the Hawk Creek area and wildlife preservation at the Flying Bison Brewing Company with live music and raffles. This was the first time there was a full groundhogs day celebration in 3 years. The one with Puxatony Phil will take place on the 2nd of February.
The Buffalo Sabres dropped a 3-2 contest to the Minnesota Wild that ended in a shootout. Minnesota’s Frederick Gaudreau scored the game winning goal after both teams remained tied at two following the overtime period. Buffalo’s goals were scored by Jack Quinn and Zemgus Girgensons. The Sabres end their four-game road trip winning three of four games and will return home to face the Hurricanes on Wednesday night. Buffalo sits just one point back of the final wild card spot, behind Pittsburgh.
Well the Bills won’t be in it but the Super Bowl is set with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs meeting for the big game. Kansas City punched its ticket with a dramatic home win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. Earlier Sunday, Philly took down the San Francisco 49ers at home to secure the NFC crown. The Chiefs are making their third appearance in the big game since 2020, while the Eagles look to notch their second title in six seasons. Super Bowl 57 is set for February 12th in Glendale, Arizona. If you want a ticket for the big game get ready to shell out some big money. Top priced tickets are going for over 33 thousand dollars. Even the cheap seats are extremely pricey with the cheapest seat available being 4500 dollars.
