Retired pastor loses Rose Road residence in Batavia blaze.
The parsonage of Faith Community Chapel on Rose Road in the Town of Batavia has been destroyed by fire.
A passer-by called in the fire reporting flames shooting from the roof the home as parishioners gathered inside the nearby church for Sunday services.
The residence was home to retired Pastor Gene Demay and his wife who were among those attending Sunday services.
Fire crews had a difficult time cutting through the metal roof which was covering old asphalt shingles and trapping the flames inside.
Deputy Chief of the Town of Batavia Fire Department Robert Tripp was on the scene Sunday morning…

There were no injuries reported and a dog and cat managed to escaped the flames as well.
Investigation into what sparked the blaze continues.

Former Holley resident arrested for murder on Liberty Street.
Batavia Police have arrested 36 year old Richard D. Hanes most recently of Thorpe Street in Batavia for beating 47 year old Raymond Morgan to death this summer.
Hanes was charged with Second Degree Murder after a lengthy investigation by Batavia PD.
On July 24th of this year Morgan’s body was found severely beaten in a rooming house at 111 Liberty Street.

Hanes was taken into custody two days after the killing on Parole Violations and remains behind bars.
He was arraigned in Genesee County Court Friday afternoon and will remain in custody pending his next court appearance in January.

Governor Cuomo’s lead over his Republican Challenger Marc Molinaro is shrinking ahead of Election Day tomorrow.
The Siena College poll out Sunday shows Cuomo with a 49 to 36 percent lead.
That’s smaller than the 22 percent cushion Cuomo had in the poll last month.
Cuomo has taken heat recently for avoiding a debate with Molinaro and then eventually only taking part in one debate.

The Blue Devil’s continue their winning streak post season.
Batavia proved victorious in the Section V Class B Playoffs over Wayne with a final score of 49 to 14.
Batavia now advances to the Western Regional on Saturday, Nov 10th and will take on Section 6 champions Cheektowaga Central.
Kick off at Clarence High School is scheduled for 6:30PM. The game will be broadcast on WBTA AM & FM
The boys from Alexander also had a strong performance in the Section V Class D Playoffs shutting out York/Pavilion 36 to zero.
They will advance to the Western Regional against Section 6 champs Clymer at Clarence High School next Saturday with kick off set for noon.
