A Batavia man could federal charges for taking a protected minor across state lines.
County lawmen are working with the FBI to determine whether 22 year old Jose Guillermo Torres-Acevedo of Batavia should face federal charges for an alleged case of child abduction last month that ended in another state.
Torres-Acevedo is accused of taking a 14 year old girl from her home in Bergen on the morning of November 29th leading to a manhunt and an Amber Alert.
The girl reportedly went willingly with Torres-Acevedo after he had already been barred from contact with her from a court order of protection.
He allegedly took the girl over state lines in a stolen vehicle before being caught later that night at a Walmart in Mansfield Pennsylvania.
Torres was initially charged with endangering the welfare of a child for having alleged contact with the underage girl and was most recently charged with Grand Larceny and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle for stealing a Dodge Journey from an address on College View Drive in Batavia.
Genesee County Sheriff William Sheron said he is working with the FBI to determine whether he should face federal charged for taking a minor across state lines.
Torres-Acevedo remains jailed without bail.
