The State DOT responded to a recent request to investigate road conditions at the site of a fatal accident in Elba.
The crash on February 2nd took the lives of 53 year old Teresa Norton, and her 22 year old son Thomas both of Albion.
Concerns were raised on the lack of a snow fence and plow times on Route 98 the day of the double fatal accident.
The DOT issued a statement “This was a tragic incident. DOT’s primary focus is highway safety, which includes snow and ice preparation and response.
We maintain thousands of miles on highways statewide and follow snow and ice guidelines to address severe winter weather in Upstate New York”

A Special Weather Statement has been issued from the National Weather Service concerning icy conditions and untreated surfaces this morning.
Temperatures are dropping below freezing this morning across all of Western NY, the Genesee Valley, and western Finger Lakes.
Water from rain and melting snow overnight has frozen resulting in very icy and slippery conditions on untreated roads, parking lots, and sidewalks. Forecasters encourage using extra caution early this morning.

The Winter Weather Advisory has been cancelled however a Wind Advisory is in effect for Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming Counties until 10 o’clock tonight.
Winds out of the Southwest are expected at 20 to 30 mph with gusts reaching up to 50.
Winds of this magnitude may down tree limbs leading to isolated power outages and travel in high profile vehicles will be difficult at times.

Police in LeRoy bust a parolee after being found asleep behind the wheel.
37 year old Aaron Heale of North Lake Ave Bergen was taken into custody by LeRoy Police after they received complaint from a local car wash that Heale was slumped over in his car in the wash bay.
As they investigated lawmen said they allegedly found a Hypodermic syringe in Heale’s vehicle.
He was jailed on an alleged parole violation and charged with Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic instrument.

Governor Cuomo says President Trump may be open to changing a law capping the State and Local Tax Deduction at ten-thousand-dollars.
The pair discussed the issue at the White House yesterday.
The governor believes the changing tax code is one of the reasons the Empire State is facing an over two-billion-dollar budget gap.
A White House summary of the meeting said President Trump listened to Governor Cuomo’s concerns and commented on the impact high taxes in states like New York have on families.

Jason Pominville snapped a one-all tie in the second period and the Sabres went on to beat the Islanders 3 to 1 in Buffalo.
Johan Larsson added an insurance marker late in the third period for the Sabres, who have traded wins and losses in their last six games.
Jeff Skinner scored in the first and Linus Ullmark made 24 saves for Buffalo.
Casey Cizikas tied the game at one for New York in the final minute of the first period.
