Fatal crash in Wyoming County ends with three dead and a Lackawanna man behind bars.
According to report from Wyoming County Sheriff Gregory Rudolph, three people were killed as the result of a two vehicle crash on Route 20A at Maxon Road in the Town of Sheldon Sunday morning.
The initial investigation by Deputies has revealed a SUV with a family of nine from New Jersey were westbound on Route 20A when a southbound pickup truck on Maxon Road went through the intersection without stopping at the stop sign and struck the SUV.
The SUV had one adult male, three adult females and five children ages 4 through 14.
Two adult women were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene and one of the four year old children was taken to the Wyoming County Community Hospital for head injuries and died about an hour later.
The identities and injuries of the family members are being withheld pending family notifications.
The driver of the pickup was identified as 20 year old Richard Sawicki of Lackawanna.
After being transported to ECMC and later released Sawicki was arrested by Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies for Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving.
He was remanded to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail and his driver’s license was suspended.
Sawicki is expected back in court on June 10th and investigation into the crash is continuing with further charges expected.
Six people busted at Chris Young Concert this weekend.
During the Chris Young Concert at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center on Friday Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies made 6 arrests of individuals nearly all from the buffalo area or surrounding region.
Two were busted after being ejected and trying to reenter, two were arrested for harassment after allegedly pushing and punching security guards and two were taken into custody for DWI.
All six were issued appearance tickets for Darien Court on June 11th.
Lawmen in Warsaw bust two for DWAI in holiday enforcement.
State Police, Warsaw Police and Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a sobriety checkpoint on State Route 20A in the Village of Warsaw Friday.
During the detail they arrested 37 year old Jennifer Irish of Warsaw, for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, 34 year old Katy O’Brien of Warsaw for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of Marihuana and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 26 year old Stephenie Lee of Cleveland on counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.
672 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint and in addition to the 2 DWAI arrests 13 traffic tickets were issued for various violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
