Two car crash in Batavia lands two in the hospital “under evaluation”.
A distracted driver has been deemed the cause of a two car crash in Batavia that landed both drivers in the hospital according to report from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
Dispatchers were notified of the accident on West Main Street Road in Batavia at around 10 after 11 yesterday morning.
According to the accident report 63 year old William Gibbs of West Main Street Road, Corfu reportedly “became distracted by moving his phone” while eastbound in his 2011 Ford sedan on Route 5 causing him to cross into the westbound lane.
He collided with a westbound 2012 Chevy SUV operated by 35 year old Patricia Bunk, of Graham Road, Elba.
Both were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, Bunk by Mercy EMS and Gibbs via Mercy Flight, with both patients were listed as “under evaluation” at last report.

An Ellicott Street man is hospitalized after being beaten at his home.
According to City Police 34 year old Mark Collier of Ellicott Street was beaten Sunday night with a blunt object for refusing to make a so-called charitable donation to his attacker.
30 year old Benjamin Santiago of Jackson Street is accused of beating Collier and has since been arrested and charged with felony counts of assault and robbery.
According to authorities, Collier had given money to Santiago before but refused before being assaulted.
Santiago fled to Rochester in a stolen vehicle from Batavia and was collard by Rochester Police then brought back to Genesee County and Jailed.

Pair found sleeping with stolen items, drugs and a weapon in Pavilion.
Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to report of a disabled or abandoned vehicle on Peoria Road in Pavilion on Memorial Day.
Lawmen discovered 21 year old Stormy Watts of Stafford and 22 year old Daniel Lewis of North Chili sleeping in the back seat and upon further investigation officers located a firearm, drugs and numerous stolen items in their possession.
Watts and Lewis were remanded to the Genesee County Jail on charges including Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Unlawful Possession of Pot with Lewis facing counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Destroying Evidence.
Deputies say they are still looking for victims to claim all their items after seizing numerous vehicle electronics, hand bags and wallets.

The arraignment of 31 year old Quinton Edmonds of Rochester was cancelled yesterday.
Edmonds is charged with 2nd degree murder for stabbing 43 year old Michael Paladino of Ross Street to death over the weekend. Court officials say Edmonds arrangement was postponed because he does not yet have a lawyer.

Lawmakers could take a big step today towards making New York the first state to make declawing cats illegal.
The legislature is expected to vote on the issue as part of Animal Advocacy Day at the Capitol.
Supporters of the ban say declawing is a cruel and unnecessary surgical procedure that causes severe pain.
A veterinarian caught breaking the law could face a one-thousand dollar penalty.

And this from the Genesee County Highway Department. Ham Road, between Knowlesville Road and Gorton Road will be closed for a bridge replacement for approximately two months.
The department said they will notify residents once the road is reopened.
