Shots Fired During Police Chase in Batavia

A police chase along the Thruway ends in gun fire at the Batavia exit.
There were no series injuries.
The shots were fired by a State Trooper when the car being chased suddenly came at police in an aggressive manner.
The incident played out beginning around 12:30 this afternoon.
Troopers said a couple in a gray Mercedes were wanted in connection with a theft from Sears in the Marketplace Mall. Monroe County deputies gave chase onto the Thruway when troopers joined in.
The suspects left the Thruway at the Batavia exit and lost control of their vehicle.

The suspects managed to get away from police, heading west on West Main. The car was finally stopped near Kelsey Road and the suspects were taken into custody without further trouble.
The suspects have not yet been identified.
The male half of the couple went to Strong for treatment of minor injuries, the female was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
No law enforcement officers were hurt.
State Police say further information will be released tonight.
