Suspect Arrested in Avon Robbery

AVON: Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Rochester man after the investigation of a Robbery at the Dutch Hollow Market in East Avon.
On Saturday February 3, 2018 at approximately 5:35 pm, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Dutch Hollow Market for a Robbery that had just occurred. The store employee reported that a white male with facial hair and wearing a hooded sweatshirt came into the store and approached the register. The clerk further reported that the suspect told the employee that he was being robbed and demanded money from the cash register and told the employee that he would shoot him if he called the police.
Members form the Sheriff’s Office Command Staff, Criminal Investigations Division, Road Patrol Division, and Forensic Identification Unit conducted the investigation at the scene which included the recovery of video surveillance of the suspect and vehicle used in the crime.

Members of the Criminal Investigations Division conducted the follow up investigation and on February 6th the images of the robbery were released to the public to assist with identifying the suspect and vehicle. After numerous leads were followed up, the suspect was identified as 30 year old John W. Washburn III of Rochester.
On February 7th, Sheriff’s Investigators took Washburn into custody on Lexington Ave in Rochester. Washburn was arrested and charged with Robbery in the First Degree, a class B felony.
Wasburn was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regards to bail on the matter and advised Washburn will be held without the chance of bail due to having prior felony convictions in the state of Arizona.
