Genesee County Office for the Aging Returning to Bank Street
As the Bank Street Streetscape Project wraps up, the Genesee County Office for the Aging is preparing to reopen its main location at 2 Bank Street in Batavia. Walk-in staff, who were temporarily relocated to Job Development during construction, are expected to return later this week once paving is complete.
Recreation and wellness programs, along with the OFA meal site, will officially resume at 2 Bank Street on Monday, September 22. Director Jessica Riley says the team is thrilled to welcome the community back and thanked local partners for hosting programs during the transition.

Trivia Night at the Holland Land Office Museum
The Holland Land Office Museum hosts Trivia Night tonight at 7 p.m. The theme is World War II in the Pacific, marking the 80th anniversary of the Japanese surrender. Admission is $5, or $3 for museum members. To reserve a spot, call 585-343-4727 or email hollandlandoffice@gmail.com
UMMC Receives National Stroke Care Recognition
United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia has earned top honors from the American Heart Association for its excellence in stroke and cardiac care.
Through the Association’s Get With The Guidelines program, UMMC received both the Rural Stroke Gold and Gold Plus Achievement awards — two of the highest recognitions available. These honors are given to hospitals that consistently follow nationally recognized, evidence-based treatment protocols that improve outcomes for stroke patients.
In addition, UMMC was recognized for quality care in treating coronary artery disease, underscoring its commitment to addressing critical heart health needs in the rural community it serves.
Dr. Robert Mayo, Chief Medical Officer for Rochester Regional Health, said the recognition reflects UMMC’s dedication to providing exceptional care, reducing health disparities, and improving long-term outcomes for patients right here in Genesee County.

Health Department Seeks Dog After Bite Incident
The Genesee County Health Department is trying to locate a light brown Pitbull mix after a dog bite in the parking lot of the Salvation Army Family Store on Jackson Street in Batavia. The incident happened last Wednesday evening around 7:20. The owner was seen driving a black vehicle. Officials want to confirm the dog’s health to rule out rabies exposure. Anyone with information is asked to call the Health Department at 585-344-2580, extension 5555.
Genesee County High School Soccer Scores
In boys action, Kendall came out strong with a 5–0 shutout over Attica/Alexander. On the girls’ side, York/Pavilion powered past Letchworth, 5–1, while Le Roy couldn’t get on the board against a tough Livonia squad, falling 4–0.
Genesee County High School Volleyball Scores
Byron-Bergen swept Attica, three sets to none. Elba also earned a straight-set win over Kendall, while Notre Dame Batavia blanked Wheatland-Chili, 3–0.
Le Roy kept its perfect season alive, improving to 4–0 with a dominant victory over Wayland-Cohocton. The Knights took it in straight sets, 25-22, 25-10, and 25-9. Evy Kanaley led with 31 assists, while Shea Williams added 17 kills and five aces. Harper Holly chipped in nine kills, and Kylie Wilson posted 13 digs.
