Town of Batavia Worker Avoids Serious Injury After Tree Falls on Truck

A Town of Batavia employee narrowly avoided serious injury late Monday morning when a large section of a tree trunk fell onto his pickup truck in the hamlet of East Pembroke.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. on East Avenue as the worker was driving through the area. Town Supervisor Gregory Post says the tree narrowly missed causing far more serious harm.
Post said the falling tree crushed the sander mounted on the truck and damaged part of the body of the Ford Super Duty. He added that the employee planned to go to the hospital for evaluation as a precaution.
Town crews were working to secure the scene, shut off power if needed, and remove downed wires and tree limbs. Officials believe extremely high winds caused the tree to snap and fall onto the passing vehicle.
No serious injuries were immediately reported.
