The federal task force to address the violence and crime in Rochester and Buffalo has made 138 arrests so far in its efforts. Operation Viper so far has been cracking down on illegal firearms, drugs and violent offenders. Of the 138 arrests 45 were gun related, 45 were narcotics related, and 38 were violent felonies. John DeVito, special agent in charge of the New York Field Division at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said it’s just the beginning.
SUNY Chancellor, Jim Malatras announced Friday the SUNY school system is requiring students to be vaccinated on campus. Unvaccinated students will be required to wear masks and undergo weekly testing. Individual schools can decide if they want to enforce stricter guidelines. SUNY Brockport added if students live in a dorm or participate in a sport, they will need to be vaccinated. Several private colleges and Community Colleges have also announced that they will mandate students to be vaccinated to participate in on campus classes and also mandate masks to be worn indoors for all students.
GO Health has announced free vaccinations at the Genesee County Fair. Paul Pettit, Public Health Director for GO Health has said “The vaccination rates in both Genesee and Orleans counties are slowly increasing, but we are still lagging behind New York State. The majority of the cases we are seeing in both counties are people that are unvaccinated.” Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday there will be a vaccine clinic at the fairgrounds from 1:30-4:30pm. Wednesday the clinic will go from 4:30-7:30pm. These clinics are for the Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson vaccines. Anyone 12 and up can get a shot.

The Buffalo Sabres have made several trades since the beginning of the draft and 25 year old lead scorer Sam Reinhart is one of them. Reinhart has been traded to the Florida Panthers. It is unclear what the Sabres are getting for Reinhart who has been with the Sabres for 7 seasons and has never played for another NHL team. Another big trade was Rasmus Ristolainen who was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers before the draft.
