Plea deal for a former star athlete in Batavia turned burglar.
20 year old TeeSean Ayala, once a promising basketball player for Batavia High School now faces serous prison time after accepting a plea deal regarding a number of burglaries in Genesee County.
Ayala pleaded guilty to a count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree in County Court yesterday morning, admitting to possessing and then ditching a handgun in an incident from last November on Washington Ave.
In the incident Ayala reportedly pulled into the driveway of County Manager Jay Gsell’s home to drop a weapon while being chased by law enforcement.
His plea satisfied numerous other charges and pending burglary cases while Ayala now looks at a possible 3 and a half to 15 years in state prison.
He is scheduled for sentencing on August 1st.
A Liberty Street man arrested for destroying property.
City Police took 53 year old Vincent Sanfratello into custody last Friday night after he allegedly destroyed someone else’s property at a Liberty Street address.
Sanfratello was charged with a count of Criminal Mischief with intent to damage property and was released with an appearance ticket for Batavia City Court.
County Jail Research Committee recommends 200-bed facility.
Committee members tasked with researching and developing plans for new county jail echoed the findings of a joint architect/consultant study yesterday afternoon asking Genesee County legislators to consider a 200-bed incarceration facility to replace the current County Jail on West Main St.
Sheriff William Sheron who is heading the 12-member steering committee along with County Assistant Manager Matthew Landers said the suggestion is coming from the experts at SMRT architect and CRS Inc.

The E-Waste Recycling Event is occurring this Saturday, June 1st from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot on 5130 East Main Street in Batavia.
They will accept items like Cell Phones, Computers, Monitors, and Televisions however there is a limit of 2 Tube Televisions per car.
The Business Council of New York State is throwing its support behind a bill to issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.
The council’s president said yesterday the organization is supporting the initiative because it sends a message to Washington that immigration reform is a necessary business issue and the right thing to do.
Governor Cuomo says he’d like to see lawmakers take action on the legislation before leaving Albany next month.
If approved, an estimated 265-thousand people would be able to get their licenses.
