Written by WBTA STAFF on July 24, 2018
Press Release:
Batavia Downs Gaming and Hotel will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its first electric vehicle (EV) charging station, which has been installed in the parking lot adjacent to the valet entrance with support from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
The public and media are invited to attend the event, which will be held by the EV Stations in the valet parking lot on Wednesday, August 1st, 2018 at 11 AM.
Batavia Downs charging station is one of several stations installed throughout the Genesee-Finger Lakes region through implementation of the Genesee Region Electric Vehicle Charging Station Plan, prepared by the Greater Rochester Clean Cities coalition in 2016 with NYSERDA support. Other local communities recommended by the Plan to increase electric vehicle infrastructure and have recently installed charging stations include the villages of Victor, Geneseo and Brockport and the City of Canandaigua.
“Our region continues to see growth in the number of EV charging stations and the adoption of electric vehicles by drivers. The addition of an electric charging station at Batavia Downs creates an opportunity for local EV drivers to come to Batavia Downs Gaming and Hotel and recharge their vehicles while they experience all that Batavia Downs has to offer” said David Keefe, Greater Rochester Clean Cities coalition coordinator.
EVs can save money and reduce air pollution in New York State. Compared to gasoline-powered cars, EVs are more energy efficient and cost 50-70% less to operate per mile. A large portion of New York’s electricity grid is powered by clean low-carbon energy sources (not oil or coal), allowing EVs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants that cause smog and acid rain.
