There is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Livingston and Wyoming counties until 7pm this evening. A cold front will move southeast from Canada late tonight into Thursday morning. Showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of this front through early evening tonight. There was some light to moderate rain this afternoon in Batavia. The weather service says if thunderstorms should development, they will have the potential for damaging winds and very heavy rain. Hail is also possible.
State police are cracking down on drunk and drugged driving this weekend. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the New York State Police and local law enforcement agencies across the state will increase patrols and crack down on drunk and drugged driving and other traffic infractions this 4th of July weekend. State Troopers will conduct sobriety checkpoints and target reckless and aggressive driving statewide to keep New York highways safe during one of the busiest summer holidays for travel. The campaign will begin this Friday, July 2 and run through Monday, July 5.
