Daniel Allen – GCC Swim and Drive Head Coach

Press Release:

Allen Named GCC Swimming and Diving Head Coach

The Genesee Community College athletics department announced Daniel Allen as its new swimming and diving head coach Oct. 1.

Allen comes to GCC after spending the previous 13 years as either the head or associate head men’s and women’s coach at three other four-year colleges or universities.

Most recently, Allen spent the past four seasons as the head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach at Pace University in Pleasantville, NY. Prior to that he held the same title at SUNY Buffalo State College – also for four seasons.

Allen’s collegiate coaching career began at his alma mater SUNY Geneseo in 2005 after his graduation as an associate head coach and aquatics manager.

At Pace University, Allen’s teams were acknowledged as the top academic swimming and diving teams in the Northeast 10 in three of his four years at the helm, including the last two.

At each of his three previous coaching venues, Allen’s athletes have broken more than a collective 150 school records with those totals increasing with each venue he has been at the helm, with nearly 60 at his last stint at Pace.

As a member of the Knights’ swimming and diving team, he was named the 2004 Rochester Area Swimmer Athlete of the Year, and captured the Most Outstanding Swimmer Award from the 2005 State University of New York Athletics Conference Championships.

Allen also competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division-III National Championships and was crowned a SUNYAC conference champion more than a dozen times.

The 2018-19 GCC swimming and diving season begins Oct. 20 when the team travels to Bradford, Pa. for the Panther Relays hosted by the University of Pittsburgh Bradford.

Cougar Athletes of the Week Announced

The Genesee Community College Athletics department announced its players of the week for the week ending Sept. 30 with Lyndsey Rowland from the volleyball team taking the top female honor and Rodrigo Albuquerque from the men’s soccer team taking the top male honor.

In addition to being named Cougars of the Week, the pair was also named National Junior College Athletic Association Players of the Week for their respective sports at the D-III national-level.

It was the second consecutive week that a pair of Cougars was selected with national weekly recognition.

Rowland found her way into the NJCAA D-III national top-10 list in blocks thanks to an impressive week where she led the Cougars to a 4-0 record. During her 14 sets, the sophomore middle blocker recorded 22 total blocks with 11 solo and 10 digs.

Albuquerque distanced himself as the NJCAA D-III men’s soccer points and goals leader with an impressive 18-point week in leading No. 4 GCC to a 3-0 record. During those contests, the freshman striker collected seven goals and four assists.
