Buffalo comes in red hot with a six-game winning streak and opens a five-game homestand at KeyBank Center after a 3-2 win over Nashville last night.

20:00 – Opening faceoff is won by Buffalo and the game is under way.
18:00 – Buffalo has done a solid job to start, need to clean up the passing a bit.

5:01 – Kesselring and Cernak try to fight each other, the refs weren’t having it. Both are penalized 2 minutes for Unsportsmanlike Conduct. 4v4 once again.
3:19 – Another fight breaks out, refs are able to quickly stop it before anything major transpired. Noah Ostlund has been penalized 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct. Tampa will have a 4v3 for 19 seconds and then a normal Power Play.
1:19 – Buffalo successfully kills the Tampa penalty.
0:00 – And so possibly the most exciting period of Buffalo Sabres hockey in over a decade comes to an end. Summary coming up.
1st Period Summary:
Wow…. just wow. What an electric period. The game started rather tame with no stoppages in the first 4 minutes, after that however all hell broke loose. Counting each individual scrum there was over 10 fights that period and the crowd is absolutely bought in. The icing on the cake is that Buffalo was able to find the back of the net on a Power Play to give them a 1-0 nothing lead after this period. Winner of this game leaves with first place in the Atlantic Division and it feels every bit the part of a playoff game. Buffalo does need to remember there is still a hockey game going on as we move forward into the second period, Tampa won’t go quietly into the night and Buffalo will need to pepper on additional goals.
2nd Period:
20:00 – Kesselring and Cernak drop the gloves on the opening faceoff, Kesselring takes it. Both get 5 minutes for fighting.
19:54 – Corey Perry and Beck Malenstyn drop the gloves. Both get 5 minutes for fighting.
18:29 – Buffalo is getting some good looks at the net now that the fighting has taken a momentary pause. Ryan McDonagh has been penalized 2 minutes for tripping. We will get our third look of the evening at the Buffalo Power Play.
17:45 – Jason Zucker scores on the Power Play. Buffalo leads 2-0
16:25 – Hagel might need a police escort to get out of here after the cheap shot he just took at Rasmus Dahlin. Another full team brawl breaks out. Dahlin is going to the locker room to get checked out.
16:25 – Hagel gets 4 minutes for roughing. We’ll get our fourth look of the night at the Sabres Power Play.
14:50 – Alex Tuch scores on the Power Play. Buffalo leads 3-0
12:54 – A “We hate Tampa” chant has erupted from the whole stadium.
12:05 – Corey Perry scores for Tampa. Buffalo leads 3-1
9:32 – Buffalo continues to get good looks on net, they are outshooting Tampa 22-8.
9:04 – Owen Power has been penalized 2 minutes for high sticking. We will get another look at the Tampa Power Play.
8:53 – Alex Tuch scores a breakaway goal shorthanded. Buffalo leads 4-1
7:34 – Tampa does score on the Power Play with a Nikita Kucherov goal. Buffalo leads 4-2
5:14 – Zemgus Girgensons scores for Tampa. Buffalo leads 4-3
2:23 – J.J. Moser scores for Tampa. The game is tied 4-4
0:00 – Another eventful period comes to an end. Summary coming up.
2nd Period Summary:
The second period started out exactly the way it ended in the first. With two instant fights to get the crowd into the game. The refs quickly put an end to the fighting however, intervening in any issues that looked like they had the potential of becoming a fight. Buffalo got out to a 4-1 lead with 2 power play goals and a shorthanded goal past the halfway point in the period. However, Tampa would not go away quietly and scored 3 consecutive goals to tie the game before the end of the period. If Buffalo wants to win this game, I believe they need to focus less on getting into scuffles in the third and let their play speak for itself. This game, and first place in the Atlantic is right there for the taking. Just have to win the third period.
3rd Period:
20:00 – Opening faceoff is won by Tampa and the period is underway.
19:01 – Nikita Kucherov scores for Tampa. Tampa Bay leads 5-4
14:45 – Not a ton happening the last couple of minutes.
14:14 – Brayden Point scores for Tampa. Tampa Bay leads 6-4
13:48 – Sam Carrick scores for Buffalo. Tampa Bay leads 6-5
10:12 – Brandon Hagel scores for Tampa. Tampa Bay leads 7-5
9:41 – Zucker tries to fight Yanni Gourde, but the refs quickly put an end to it.
8:57 – Rasmus Dahlin scores for Buffalo. Tampa Bay leads 7-6
5:31 – Jason Zucker scores for Buffalo. The Game is Tied 7-7
4:57 – Zemgus Girgensons has been penalized 2 minutes for tripping. We will get our fifth look of the night at the Buffalo Power Play that is 3 for 4 on the night.
4:17 – Josh Doan scores from the blue line for Buffalo. Buffalo leads 8-7
