UPDATE: Power Restored
Written by Dan Fischer on October 17, 2018
Power has been restored this afternoon to all local customers of National Grid.
At its peak, the outage affected some 5,500 National Grid customers. The outage began at 12:55 p.m. when a high voltage line was reported down on Evans Street in the city. At nearly the same time, a transformer exploded and caught fire nears Dan’s Tire at the City Centre Mall.
It’s not clear if the two incidents are even related.
The outage impacted a wide area of the city of Batavia and areas to the west and south, although there was no defined perimeter to the outage.
