Sheldon Silver

Former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has been sentenced to seven years in jail on corruption charges.
The 74 year old Silver was convicted in May for accepting bribes in exchange for political favors. Prosecutors were seeking a decade behind bars while Silver’s defense team was hoping for community service.
In a letter to the judge, Silver says he is deeply sorry and prays he will not die in jail.

Batavia Police say they have a person of interest in this week’s murder on Liberty Street.
On Tuesday night, 47 year old Raymond Morgan was found in his room at 111 Liberty Street, a boarding house for parolees.
Morgan was severely beaten and died a short time later.
Police say the person of interest in the case is already in custody on an unrelated matter.
Batavia Police have declined further comment.

An Oakfield man arrested for allegedly raping a girl under 17.
40 year old John Grabowski of Fisher Road is charged with Rape in the Third Degree. Deputies say additional charges are pending.
Grabowski is being held in the Genesee County Jail on $100,000 bail.

State Police based in Warsaw net over a kilo of heroin and a pound of Crystal-meth.
The seizure was made last night following a traffic stop on Black House Road.
Two suspects, both from the State of Georgia, were arrested on felony drug possession charges and jailed without bail.

The Batavia Muckdogs travel to Burlington, Vermont today to open up a six-game road trip.
The first three games are in Vermont, then the Muckdogs head south for a three game set against the State College Spikes.
The Dogs return home to Batavia on Thursday night.
