On this page, we spotlight the athlete or athletes who earned Player of the Game honors in the games we broadcast the previous week. We’ve been giving out Player of the Game awards since the 1960s, and for the first time, we’re now digitally honoring our winners. WBTA’s Player of the Game is brought to you by TF Brown’s.
- John Ayers – Pavilion/York Baseball –In Wednesday’s WBTA Game of the Week against Alexander, John Ayers went 3-for-3 at the plate with two singles and an RBI double. His late-game double gave Pavilion/York a lead they would never surrender in the victory over Alexander. Defensively, Ayers was flawless in center field, making a pair of impressive catches in an error-free performance.
- Maggie Caparco – Elba Softball – In Friday’s WBTA Game of the Week against Notre Dame, Maggie Caparco went 2-for-3 at the plate with two critical doubles for the Lady Lancers. Defensively in right field, Caparco recorded four catches, including a glove-down grab and an over-the-shoulder catch — two plays not commonly expected from a right fielder. As just a freshman batting eighth in the lineup, Maggie delivered the kind of performance every coach hopes for.
