No. 6 Women’s Team Ends Regular Season with Sixth-Consecutive Clean Sheet
The No. 6 Genesee Community College women’s soccer team concluded its regular season with its sixth-consecutive shutout win. The Cougars blanked visiting Broome Community College 4-0 Oct. 20 to finish the regular season at 15-2.
In addition to the win being the sixth-straight by shutout, it was also the team’s eighth clean sheet in its last nine starts. During the months of September and October, the Cougars went 13-1 with the lone loss being to the current No. 1 team in the country.
National Junior College Athletic Association All-American Miko Yamashita led the way with a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Yamashita’s first goal 16 minutes into the game proved to be the game-winner as the sophomore collected six points on the afternoon.
Current NJCAA D-III Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Leah Czechowski was not far behind Yamashita after also netting a pair of goals, while Ryley O’Mara assisted on the game-winner.
Jaclyn Guzdek recorded her nation-leading 12th clean sheet with a half-dozen saves as the Cougars out-shot the Hornets 19-9 for the contest while also holding the edge in corner kicks 6-2.
Guzdek also leads all NJCAA D-III keepers in minutes played with 1530.

No. 3 Men’s Soccer Team Wraps up Regular Season with 5-1 Win
The No. 3 Genesee Community College men’s soccer team ended its regular season on a three-game winning streak after beating visiting Broome 5-1 Oct. 20.
The win was the Cougars’ 10th in its last 11 starts as the Cougars finished the regular season with a 15-3 record and now awaits a playoff opponent for next week’s Region-III Tournament.
Rodrigo Albuquerque’s penalty kick early in the first half proved to be the game winner and also the freshman’s nation-leading eighth winner on the season.
Albuquerque finished with a pair of goals and at the game’s end had established a 19-point lead in the race as the National Junior College Athletic Association D-III’s leading scorer.
Ed Port added a pair of assist to bring his total to 21 – also a nation-leading number in that category.
Philip Melo was the only other Cougar in on two or more goals with one goal and an assist.
Camilo Pernet Jimenez and Iyad Lablack rounded out the goal scoring, while Hijiri Sano added an assist in the win.
Matthies Meyer and Adrian Bergman shared the win in net with 45 minutes of action apiece.
