Suspect in Liberty Street beating death charged with murder.
City Police have arrested a former Orleans County resident for beating 47 year old Raymond Morgan to death this summer.
36 year old Richard D. Hanes most recently of Thorpe Street in Batavia has been charged with Second Degree Murder after a lengthy investigation by Batavia PD.
On July 24th of this year Morgan’s body was found severely beaten in a rooming house at 111 Liberty Street.
According to investigators Hanes was quickly identified as a prime suspect through a tip and several corroborating witnesses.
Hanes was taken into custody two days after the killing on Parole Violations and remains behind bars.
District Attorney Lawrence Friedman spoke about having Hanes detained during the investigation…
Freidman said the evidence against Hanes includes eye witnesses, physical evidence and security footage tracing his path.
Investigators were reportedly waiting for DNA results to return before making the arrest.
Hanes was arraigned in Genesee County Court Friday afternoon and will remain in custody pending his next court appearance in January.
The race for the 27th Congressional District is going to be a close one according to a recent poll.
Incumbent Republican Congressman Chris Collins is ahead of Democratic challenger Nate McMurray by seven points according to the News10NBC survey.
However, about 17 percent of people surveyed said they’ll either vote for a third candidate or are still undecided.
Collins won his previous two races by an average of 40 percent.
The Batavia Blue Devils return to the Section Five Class B football championship Saturday night.
Their game against Wayne will be played at St. John Fisher with Kick-off at 8 o’clock Saturday night.

The Buffalo Bills are hoping to get back on the winning track this weekend.
The team is taking on the Chicago Bears at New Era Field.
Buffalo will be led by quarterback Nathan Peterman.
He’s back on the field following injuries to Derek Anderson and Josh Allen.
