According to the NYS Department of Labor there are 200 new private sector jobs in Genesee County that didn’t exist this time last year.
There are a reported 16,700 jobs in the County compared to 16,500 a year ago and average quarterly wages for all sectors have gone up as well.
With government jobs included the total is 22,400 jobs in Genesee.
The government sector has been losing about 100 jobs year over year.
The County’s unemployment rate is 3.3 percent for October 2018, showing improvement over the 4.5 percent rate of 2017.
The nation’s unemployment rate is 4 percent.
Alexander resident accused of driving on drugs in Batavia.
37 year old Julie Neale of Alexander Road Alexander was stopped by deputies on Oak Street in Batavia for reportedly failing to keep right and other vehicle infractions.
Neale was allegedly impaired by drugs at the time of the stop and was taken into custody for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, along with driving with an obstructed view in an uninspected vehicle.
She was released with appearance tickets for City Court.
The Yngodess on Main Street in the city is hosting a benefit for the Sheriff’s Office K-9 fund and to honor the memory of “Destro,” as part of “Shop Small Saturday” in Downtown Batavia this weekend.
The Sheriff’s Office is currently looking at a narcotics sniffing dog to take the position left by Destro, but also have plans to acquire a second dog to be trained in explosives and tracking.
The funds have been flowing in however the Sheriff’s Office will now need to fund training for two new dogs and a new handler.
Yngodness owner Chris Crocker said the event at her shop Saturday will include tastings and specials to share.
K9 Destro’s handler Deputy Chris Erion will be at the shop from 5 to 7 p.m. for a meet-and-greet.
The Buffalo Bills are back in action this weekend.
They’ll be hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars at New Era Field.
The Bills expect rookie quarterback Josh Allen to return after he missed the last few weeks with an elbow injury.
Kickoff is set for one o’clock Sunday afternoon.
The Batavia Blue Devils are getting ready for their historic run at the New York State Class B Football Championship.
The 12 and 0 Blue Devils are going for their first state title in school history and will take on the Glens Falls Indians this Saturday at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.
