Batavia’s old Office Max location is going Country.
Plans have been announced by Country Max to take over the former Office Max building in Batavia by next year.
The store which features a wide variety of animal feeds and garden supplies made a statement yesterday saying they will open a new location on Veterans Memorial Drive sometime next year.
Plans for the new store also include a “Scrub House” self-serve dog wash, special events room, and a custom-built wood lodge filled with homesteading products including beer, wine and cider.
Last year Country Max closed its doors at their East Main Street store after 16 years in Batavia.
There was no date announced for the new store opening.
Downtown property owners have a chance for funding to infuse improvement projects.
As part of Batavia’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) all building owners within the Batavia Improvement District (BID) are now eligible to apply for part of a $600,000 Building Improvement Fund according to the Batavia Development Corporation.
Grant recipients will be awarded between $10,000 and $200,000 in DRI grant funds, per building, not to exceed 60 percent of the total building renovation project cost.
The BDC will host an information session about the Batavia DRI-Building Improvement Fund on Tuesday Dec. 18th at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
All building owners are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Governor Cuomo has ordered flags across the state to be lowered to half-staff today in honor of Trooper Jeremy VanNostrand.
VanNostrand was in his personal vehicle waiting to turn into the State Police barracks in Montgomery County yesterday morning when he was rear-ended by a box truck and killed.
In a statement, the governor said all New Yorkers are grieving VanNostrand’s death.
He also praised his service as a member of the State Police.
Flags will remain lowered until VanNostrand is buried.
A Livingston County man is facing charges after allegedly hitting an Erie County Sheriff’s deputy with his vehicle.
Officials say Hayden Newcomb of Conesus struck the officer Sunday following the Buffalo Bills game.
The deputy was directing traffic at the time but wasn’t hurt.
Newcomb was charged with DWI and other traffic offenses.
Jeff Skinner scored in overtime to lift the streaking Sabres to a 3-2 victory over the Sharks in Buffalo.
Rasmus Ristolainen and Nathan Beaulieu also scored in the win.
Carter Hutton made 36 saves as Buffalo won its 10th straight game to take the NHL lead with 36 points.
The Sabres are the first team in history to lead the NHL in points after 25 games following a season with the worst record.
Joe Pavelski had both San Jose goals in the third to tie it.
Martin Jones allowed three goals on 31 shots for the Sharks, who have lost three-of-four.
The only local school closing to announce this morning is Attica Central School which has closed for the day following the first heavy snow accumulation of the season.
