Police bust a Batavia man for dangerous drunk driving in LeRoy.
LeRoy Police arrested 42 year old Shah Zajic of Batavia after an officer assigned to DWI Crackdown Patrol observed a vehicle allegedly speeding down Wolcott Street in the Village.
Zajic was stopped early Thursday morning after allegedly failing to use a turn signal and a subsequent investigation found him to be intoxicated.
He was charged with a Felony count of DWI a Felony Aggravated DWI for being over twice the legal limit, Unlawful possession of Marijuana, Speeding and Failure to Signal.
Zajic was remanded to the Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail and is expected back in court on January 22nd.
Former President of Fireman’s Association in Alexander is laid to rest.
89 year old Gerard J. Buckenmeyer of Alexander was lain to rest Friday at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in Attica escorted by members of the Alexander Volunteer Fire Department, which he served for much of his life.
Buckenmeyer, a lifelong Alexander resident, was a past president of the Alexander Volunteer Fire Department, Western New York Fire Association, and the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York, more commonly known as FASNY.
He was also past president and longtime member of Alexander Central School Board of Education.
Governor Andrew Cuomo is reporting a sharp rise in flu cases across the state.
The governor says the number of cases of reported influenza rose by 72-percent over the past week in 58 out of 62 counties.
Cuomo is urging everyone six months of age and older to consider getting a flu shot.
Officials say the prevalent strain of influenza this year is one of the strains in this year’s vaccination.
Star running back for the Blue Devils, Ray Leach has been named the region’s Football Player of the Year by the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
The Batavia High senior has set several records for Section Five including most yards rushing, most touchdowns and most points scored in the single season.
Teammates Josh Barber and Ethan Biscaro were also named to the paper’s first team.
Longtime Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams will play his final NFL game on Sunday.
The team says the 35-year-old will retire after the regular-season finale against Miami.
Williams has spent his entire 13-year career with the Bills and is a five-time Pro Bowl selection.
They’ll be taking on their longtime AFC East rival the Miami Dolphins at New Era Field Sunday afternoon with Kickoff set for one o’clock.
